Santa Barbara Sandstone
Santa Barbara and the Montecito areas of California, produce a unique golden or buff colored sandstone, famous for its texture and work-ability. For over a century, it has been popular on many prominent public buildings and residences in Southern California. Sandstone is formed when sand is deeply buried and the pressure of burial and slightly higher temperatures allow minerals to dissolve and become mobile, then are more tightly knit together as the sediments are squeezed or compressed.
Our company offers Santa Barbara Sandstone in several products including hand fabricated ‘rubble’ and ‘Five Point’ patterns. Architects specify rubble to recreate the look of Old-World, Tuscany, French Country and Spanish Colonial architecture. The Five Point pattern is the most commonly used veneer throughout Santa Barbara. The natural stone is hand split to expose the warm golden color and then hand trimmed to produce five sides. Boulders are hand-cut with the masonry installer in mind; you will find our products require very little trimming for custom veneer applications.
Saw cutting and fabrication is available for dimensional pieces such as sills, coping, treads, flooring and full or thin veneers. Our ability to provide your project with this handsome native California stone, is second to none.
