Historic European Cobblestone®

Reclaimed Antique Cobble

Monarch Stone International exclusively imports a collection of genuine reclaimed cobblestone that is so exceptional, we trademarked the name; Historic European Cobblestone.

These authentic antique cobblestones were hand quarried and installed by local artisans between 100 – 400 years ago.  The top surface is naturally worn after years of exposure.  Perhaps the advancing armies of great leaders marched over them, along with daily wear from horse drawn carriages and heavy foot traffic.   Eventually due to noise and impact on automobiles during the past century, it was common to bury cobblestones beneath the streets they once paved.

Charming reclaimed cobblestone is carefully extracted from city and village streets when renovations are necessary.  They are cleaned, sorted by size (6 sizes) and type (granite or sandstone) and prepared for export.  We have one of the largest reclamation facilities in Europe!  Our gallery page represents the wide variety of options available.

Historic European Cobblestone in granite or sandstone is available in small cubes (3″-4″)  squares (5×5, 6×6, 7×7) and rectangles (4×6 or 5×8).  Click on our Cobblestone Sizes chart for more details.

The difference between the granite and sandstone is color and surface area appearance.  Reclaimed granite colors vary in shades of gray, gray-green, blues and warm reds and the surface is typically irregular.   Reclaimed sandstone cobbles range in warm earth tones, grays, warm greens and the surface has worn to a smoother, more even appearance.

The distinction of this collection continues, with the option of two heights; original full height cobble or a paver height which we saw-cut at @ 2”  for mortar set installation over a concrete base!

Reclaimed and Environmentally Friendly!

greenHistoric European Cobblestone meets green standards as ‘reclaimed’ material.  In addition,  eco-friendly installations   on a natural sub-base with joints using sand or an additive with joint stabilizers, will assist with permeability and percolation requirements.
